Music: Mario Parga

A somewhat reclusive master demonstrates how it is done.

In the late 1980’s, there emerged a stunning player of guitar. He was a shred-monster, but he always had a melodic touch that was closer to Vinnie Moore1 than Yngwie Malmsteen, and that made him seem more human to my ears.

Mario Parga was introduced to me circa 2002 when I picked up a copy of a Guitar compilation collection titled “The Alchemists”. Buried in some truly outstanding players (Russ Cooley, Guthrie Govan, Bumblefoot, and Marc Pattison) was a gem by Mario Parga. titled “Valse Diabolique” it is a meandering tour de force of playing that weaves motifs and themes into a melodic wall of soulful playing.

I hope you enjoy the listen:

If you want to be floored by great guitar music, I can highly recommend picking a copy of this up. You will NOT be disappointed!
