A "taste" break: Kenny Banks Jr. plays Take Five

Take Five has become one of those bellweather pieces of music. Always worth listening to, and an iconic groove. Kenny Banks Jr. delivers a superb interpretation for solo piano.

It has been a brutal couple of weeks at work (hence the lack of posting, my bad), but that doesn't get in the way of finding some of the best music out there.

I came to Dave Brubeck pretty late in life. I will not bore you with the bass ackwards approach how I discovered and fell for Dave, but it then introduced me to what the Dave Brubeck Quartet is probably best known for, Take Five.

I have plenty of variants on CD that I have bought, and whenever I see it pop up in my Youtube feed, I feel the gravitational pull of a supermassive black hole pulling me towards the "play" button.

I have not found a bad one yet.

But today, I saw this one by Kenny Banks Jr, from the 2019 American Pianists Awards, and boy howdy am I glad I clicked.

I am sure you will enjoy this:

Wasn't that a delight?
