Music: Jean Martyn

A serendipitous find, Jean Martyn displays mastery of the Blues on the keyboard. A double dose of ecstasy for the ears

Music: Jean Martyn

I know I say this often to lead a music post, that the Youtube algorithm just provides a serendipitous sampling of some incredible music and people.

So, when a vanilla looking video titled simply: "Blues Guitar on organ", I was fated to click on it. The keystone image is an older lady sitting at a modern looking organ, three keyboards and also the expected bass pedals.

Not knowing what to expect, I dove in.

HOLY SHEEEEEEEEEIT, does she tear it up. Exactly as the title says, it is like a whole Chicago blues ensemble in one.

Jean? She just tears it up. Her channel has like 1.2K subscribers, and it isn't flashy. It isn't a YT "Guitar Girl" thirst trap. Instead, it is just an amazing performance, in your face blues.

Check it out:

To check to see if this was a one off, I clicked on her channel, and I was delighted to find several other performances, this one in particular titled "Jean Martyn Plays Blues" is Jean on a grand piano, with a little rhythm in the background (actually it is two tracks concatenated) that is very Chicago-esque. If I close my eyes, I can almost hear Ray Charles on his Roland electric piano.

Blissful. Percussive. Lively. And joyous.

This lady loves and lives the blues. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
