Music: Popa Chubby
My latest find finds me way behind. Popa Chubby has been out there, and he is uber talented, and a showman at heart.
My listening tastes are all over the map, so watching Youtube trying to see what I will click on can be entertaining to say the least.
Yesterday, the algo gods tossed this artist, Popa Chubby, into my feed, and I mean, a rather large man playing a ratty looking Fender Strat. That is sort of like "I was gonna use a condom, but when would I ever get back to Haiti"[1].
So, I clicked on it. Bloody hell, here was this bald bubba who just fucking wailed. All the things I could say about his weight, and anything else melted away when he fucking blew me away.
Popa Chubby is the real deal, a genre bender, with a heavy blues foundation, a great band behind him, and he is IN YOUR FACE!
Turns out he's been around forever, and friend of the Newsletter Susan Nieman who I share my finds with told me she saw him play in Iowa of all places. Damn, I am slow on the uptake.
Anyhow, here he is with a cover of the St0nes "Sympathy for the Devil" that just smokes:

I ordered his latest CD, and will be glad to have that in my collection.
